Emily Dickinson was an American poet but was not well-known during her lifetime. She was born in Amherst Massachusetts in 1830 and lived her life there, in seclusion, until she passed away in 1886.

Emily Dickinson wrote nearly 1,800 poems but very few were published during her lifetime,  A number of her poems were sent to friends and family member in her letters.
